La Guarimba is a vessel full of ideas and talented people, a safe place where professional and personal relationships happen. This year we managed to put on the festival in spite of the sad national and local political climate, between sick bureaucracy and insults regarding our work on the territory. I’ve been able to move forward thanks to the wonderful team who always have my back, composed of people from all around the world who invest love and hard work in this project. Our ways have been worth it: we’ve received more than 1500 short films from all over the world which made it possible to create a selection of 68 works for the Fiction, Animation, Documentary, Video-clip and Experimental competitions; we’ve received the recognition from the Calabria Region as a historic event and from MIBACT as a film festival; more than 160 people sent their application to volunteer and we managed to create an awesome multicultural team. I want to thank everyone who believed in the cultural, economic and social importance of an international film festival with free entry in a small town in the South of Italy. Thank you for giving us the feeling of not being alone, because the fight can only be successful if done together and we believe that culture is the best way to transmit values of participative democracy, integration and accessibility. Long live La Guarimba, long live our Safe Place, long live Cinema as a social act.
